With so many choices in lodging, Nicaragua has a wide array of things to do all throughout the country. In addition to surfing, Nicaragua has many other activities that will capture the attention of visitors.
Nature tours are another popular attraction in this part of the world. The diversity of wildlife and plants is phenomenal and are worth seeing. You can walk riverbeds, visit a butterfly farms or even witness the marvel of turtles journeying across the sand to lay their eggs. There are many self guided tours but also some where you will need a guide. Tours can be taken in virtually every part of the country, enabling you to see as much of its natural beauty as possible.
Horseback riding is another popular activity and is offered at Rancho Santana. You can enjoy beach rides or forest treks from the elevated back of a horse in small groups. One of the best things about this is that it enables the rider to get closer to wildlife than they normally would so their chances of spotting something increase quite dramatically.
There are also quite a few wildlife reserves and protected areas that are worth visiting. They offer the opportunity to see not only the flora and fauna of the region but to learn more about the efforts to preserve these resources in the country. Some of the more popular areas are the Mombacho Natural Reserve, the Masaya National Park, the La Flor Wildlife Refuge and the Maderas Volcano Nature Reserve. The Ometepe Island and its neighboring islands also boast incredible wildlife viewing opportunities.
If you want to get your adrenaline pumping, volcano climbing is yet another popular activity in Nicaragua. There are quite a few volcanoes located throughout the country. There are at least nine active volcanoes and plenty more which are dormant. The majority have a perfect cone shape and are quite climbable. Some can even be reached by car for those that don’t quite have what it takes to make it to the top. The view from the top of some of these craters is usually incredible and allows you a vista that stretches for miles.
Zip-Lining (aka Canopy tours) are also a great way to see the beautful secnery. There are two places that we highly reccommend you going to: Mombotour Tour in granada Nicaragua or Playa Marsella Canopy Tours, located just south of San Juan Del Sur.
With so many leisure activities to pursue in Nicaragua, it’s a great destination for the entire family.

You can fish and spear lobster directly in front of the condo! The headland shelters many different species of fish. Bring a rod and reel and catch your own meal!
Fishing the Pacific Ocean of Nicaragua often leaves a memorable experience. Fish like marlin, sailfish, dorado, wahoo, and yellowfin tuna can be caught offshore. The inshore waters offer rooster fish, sierra mackerel, jack crevalle, bonitos, barracuda.
The boats range from simple pangas that are mainly used by local fisherman to center consoles like a 23-foot Sea Craft or a 28-foot Pursuit with twin engines, and there are even larger boats. Most of the boats are equipped with excellent fishing tackle, which consist of Penn and Shimano. Fishing can be done during half and full-day trips. Prices depend greatly on the size of the boat and whether the fishing will be done inshore or offshore. A panga can cost between US$150-200, and for a half day on the 23-foot Sea Craft the price will be around US$400. Natural bait such as ballyhoo and mullet are now being used widely in the trolling spread.
